Being Amish? Yes, we get this all the time too. It seems that there are so few women that dress modest that the world thinks only the Amish or Mennonite wear dresses. It truly is sad that when people ask me what religion I am and I answer born again Christian, most of them have a blank stare on their face. But, if we keep dressing modest and revive modesty to Christianity maybe in the coming years this won't be so strange.

Try adding a headcovering to the mix and the questions and stares really start coming! I've had questions from "am I Amish or a nun?" The nun question really cracks me up! I have 4 children and I don't go hardly anywhere with out them, yet I still get asked if I'm a nun. Even when I'm very, very pregnant. Go figure!
I started wearing dresses about 5 years ago (already?!), but up north here where we live, I'm quite the oddity. So sometimes I feel like I just made this change...again. I've never been one who cares about fashion. I've always been heavy and so most fashions didn't apply to me or at least i didn't allow them to apply to me. Even when I did wear pants, there was no way I was going to wear anything short or tight or sleeve~less; and that's how most of the fashions were/are. I want to look feminine and not look like I'm wearing a sack. But I'm also not going to spend money I don't have nor am I going to worry whether something is fashionable or not. My lifestyle just isn't that way. I've tried it. But I have no place to wear an $80 sweater set to. And that's okay. Because I like the dress/jumper patterns that I have and I love to sew. And it makes my husband happy, too.
Blessings!

Hi Jennifer,
I too wear the headcovering and get alot of questions because of it as well. It does open many doors to witness as you already know which is such a blessing.

I too am a small person and it is hard if you do not sew sometimes to find nice skirts. One place that has some really nice ones is Chadwicks. They are not terribly cheap, but watch their clearance as they will have some good prices. I got a long a-line linen skirt there new for $6.99. Since I am short I have to hem up even a size 2 petite, but some people like their skirts longer than me! They have the prettiest long Moleskin skirts right now and some corduroy ones!! Really nice!
