Thrift Stores
My three girls and I shop at thrift stores quite often. The favorite in our area is Goodwill. We are committed to looking modest, but we prefer classy to frumpy. I wear dresses and skirts exclusively, though my girls wear pants sometimes. We find the grea-*test*-('") things at the thrift store! Do you ladies ever go thrift store shopping? If so, what are the best ones in your area? We pay about $4.00 for a nice skirt or top. We are VERY picky about what we buy, and often come home with things which look like they have never been worn or still have the tags. Thanks for the forum, Amy Joe! Blesssings, Carmon

thrift stores
Carmon, Yes, we shop at thrift stores. I have learned to carefully look things over b/c sometimes there are spots or tiny rips but we have always come away with something. I like to buy long sleeve blouses or tops and cut the sleeves off for short sleeves since often the short sleeve tops don't have long enough sleeves for me. We like them almost to the elbow. There are many ways to alter items. We have taken a ladies straight skirt and cut it off from the bottom up to make an elastic waist skirt for a girl. Amy

Their are also lots of thrift stores online too. Here are a few that I frequent: http://www.heartofmodesty.com/index.html http://simplymodest.com/ It looks like Simply Modest is having a sale on some of their infant things.

thrifting
My daughters and I LOVE thrifting. In our area, the best is Value Village. Their everyday prices are high, but on Mondays they feature a color tag for just 99 cents. We find many brand-new, with tags, high quality items. And they also size and colorize the racks. We also find some stuff at Goodwill (and we have a BJs, which features more of the best stuff for a little more money), and occasionally Salvation Army, which seems to have the best prices.

Thrift Stores
There are many goodwill stores around here but my favorite store would be the one called C.O.M.E. center. On fridays everything in this one large room is 10 cents. I have found many modest dresses and skirts. I even found my high school prom dress there for $3.00. sometimes the items need new buttons, or mend a fallen hem. My younger sister likes to redye her items sometimes. I guess what you find depends on the store and your area of the country. :D

what you find, how many stores there are, and how much the things are definitely does depend on the area. my family moved recently, and we have found thrift stores here at the new place, but the old ones were cheaper and larger. we have a Salvation Army here, a Volunteers of America (more expensive) and a few other smaller, more local ones. we can get clothes for everybody there sometimes, but more often decent selections are only for women and some for men. we look for kids' clothes elsewhere.
