Introduce yourself! Hi, I'm Miss Sarah. I see that there's 50 people registered before me, and there's no introduction thread yet! Hope no one minds me starting one... ;)
Introduce yourself, and tell how you found this forum! :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
About me: I am a headcovering, skirt-wearing Christian young lady, reformed in theology, conservative in everything I can think of, registered Republican since my 18th birthday, patriotic American, pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, NRA Life Member, competitive rifle shooter, homeschool graduate, college student, pianist, handbell ringer. I also enjoy singing in Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, being in the ER/trauma center, and going to rifle matches with my brother. I also like to read, cook, bake, sew, and quilt, but I am always so busy... those often get neglected!
I found this forum through the LAF site, which I love reading! *thumbsup*
Jennifer D- 08-01-2006
Well, my name is Jennifer, I'm 26 and I live in Northern Wisconsin. I, too, wear a headcovering and wear only dresses, but was not raised this way. I am the happy wife to a wonderful, Godly man and the happy mother to four children, two girls and two boys. We are a bit of an oddity in our town since we are the only people who live this way ~ we also have no tv, we have more then 2 girls and would like to have more, my girls wear only dresses, my boys and husband don't wear shorts, we don't do any work on Sundays, we homeschool, we don't drink (and up here, that's an oddity by itself)....
I enojoy sewing very much and I do like reading, but that usually is the last things that I get to do (or make time for), except for the Bible, which I read everyday and we have a family Bible study every night. I love to drive and go on trips with our family. Both my husband and I love to cook, although he's much better at it then I am, being a chef. He works at a private assisted living facility and we go there once a month with the children to sing hyms to the resisdence.
While my family is big into politics, I'm not. Neither is my husband. I havn't voted since Bush was running for his firt term, and I don't intend to any time soon. It's a bit lonely up here, since there are not to many people I can relate too or "hang out" with. One of the few friends I do have here is deaf and it's been fun learning sign language. I'm getting to the point where I can translate for her, which is nice to do.
That's about it!
mommy in Salem, OR Hi,
Thought I would add my introduction. I'm a traditional Catholic mommy of two Russian boys. One, Linus, came to us in March of this year. He is 2 but will be 3 in september. The other is waiting for us in Russia and should be in his new home by the end of the year, his name will be Patrick... he will be 2 in September.
I am a skirt wearing woman... hopefully when I can afford it more dresses. I didn't start out this way either... I didn't start out Catholic until I met my husband and more recently (November) we read a book called Dressing with Dignity and that is when I started wearing skirts.
I'll have to intro more later for now I'm out of time. Its great to find this site and not feel soo alone!
i'm a Missionary Kid who grew up in the Philippines my whole life, and have been in the USA with my family for two years now. the oldest of 8, Baptistic in doctrine, committed to house-churches and small groups and individual evangelism, staying at home with my family until marriage, courtship, homeschooling... a member of the NJ Constitution Party, and a National Committee Member to the United States Constitution Party. hm, what else?
Rachel- 08-09-2006
I've been a "member" here for a couple weeks....and haven't posted a single thing!!! So this looks like a good place to start.
I am 21 years old, a Baptist pastor's daughter, and live in Pennsylvania. I only wear skirts (have my whole life, although that's not *why* I do it now). I am going to Bible Institute for elementary education (to one day use in homschooling my children), missions (I would LOVE to be a missionary's wife!), and general Bible education (for my own personal spiritual growth). I work in our church office & bookstore, and do most of the editing for our press.
In my spare (what's that?) time, I like to bake, shop, sew, and eat chocolate. Wait, you don't need spare time to eat chocolate! :P
Juliet- 08-10-2006
Introduction Hi, my name is Juliet and i am a 38 year old reformed christian wife and homemaker. I started wearing skirts and dresses three years ago. My husband and I desire to show the truth that God created women to be nuturing, feminine, and honorable through the way I dress. As a women living in a metropolitan area (Seattle) I am burdened by the overt and bold immodesty of dress and behavior that is pervasive in public and increasingly worn in church. My favorite word to describe what I believe God intended our clothing to communicate is dignity. Our culture has lost the concept of dignity in the way we dress and behave and I am hoping to do my part in changing that. I am thrilled to find this forum. I look forward to talking with likeminded sisters about this most important topic. I believe the way we dress is a very important non-verbal communication of our citizenship.. wether here in the world.. or in heaven. So let us share the Gospel through our godly behavior and dress. and may the Lord grant us grace to do this for his Glory!
I guess, I might as well introduce myself as well. I'm Trina, 26, Army wife, homeschool mama, creative blunder, and farmgirl. I wear skirts most of the time, but find some of my activites here at home are more modestly, practicaly, and safely done in overalls. {Cleaning the chimney in a skirt shows off more than a little! :oops:} Our family is KJV Conservative Christian. We participate in a family church and find many blessings in having our children learn along side us.
Hello, my name is Jennifer. I am the mom of two little boys, Zachary 3 and Tyler 1 (hopefully more to come!!). I am a mostly skirt wearing woman....although I am a bit unusual for my faith (LDS). My husband is supportive but finds pants just as modest. We are looking into homeschooling our children and would love any advice from the vetrans out there. I love my "job" and the Lord.
Hi. I'm Gretchen. Over the last few months I've read Fascinating Womanhood and Dressing with Dignity. Those familiar with either or both books might imagine what a change has been happening at our house! I am struggling to find dresses or skirts that are modest yet attractive ... and affordable. I too found this BLOG through the LAF website.
Finally had to time introduce myself. I am a 37 year old mother of three ages 15 (almost 16) 14, and 9. I have always prefered dresses and skirts over pants. In highschool, I wore long skirts when no one else was just because I liked them and luckily my classmates thought it was OK. (wacky maybe but OK) so I was never given a hard time over it. As babies came along and my lifestyle changed to require me to do quite a lot of hard work I started wearing pants more and more. Then one day about a year ago I looked in the mirror and didn't like what I saw. I realized that I looked like a slob. It seems like when I put on a pair of pants I end up with a dirty old tee shirt or sweat shirt, my hair halfway fixed and walking like I a guy. It was depressing. During this time I also came accross the LAF website and some other nice sites. I love the look of true ladies in feminine modest dresses. I came to realize the God had a better plan for me.
I live on a farm so can't always wear one because it isn't always practical to wear a dress. I usually put on a pair of pants when I get up in the morning, go out to the barn to do the milking and feed the cows then come in, shower, put on a dress or skirt, fix my hair up nice and go about my day. I feel so much better too and I know my family (especially my hubby) appreciates the effort. Plus I know that I am glorifing God by being the lovely lady He made me to be.
Hi. I am a mother of 7 (#7 due in December). Ages range from 17 - in utero. I became dresses-only almost 8 years ago when pregnant with my only daughter. I realized that if I wanted to raise her with certain ideals such as modesty that actions would speak louder than words. We have lived in climates up to 126 degrees and down to 11 degrees. I have never found an occasion that required me to wear pants. I figure, anyway, that if I needed to wear pants, then maybe I didn't need to do that activity. Hence I have sledded down the mountains in a dress/skirt; helped build houses; gardened; planted trees/shrubs; feed the cows; milked the goats; helped birth the baby goats in the cold in the middle of winter; played ball w/ the children; attended county fairs for children showing goats in the heat of summer; etc. I guess I figured that if our ancestors did so, then so could I! It has really reshaped my whole life and I hope will have a positive impact on my children. I hope that the example set by me and my daughter will want my many boys to have wives that are modest and feminine too.
I hope I phrased that all well. Sometimes I am a bit passionate about my beliefs!
Jswife- 08-26-2006
I guess I don't really see wearing dresses only as being a distinct sign of being modest or feminine. A friend of mine who works as a florist wears pants most of the time at work and she is probably one of the most feminine and modest women I know while a county attorney I know wears "modest" dresses and skirts to work everyday and has got to be one of the most vulgar un-feminine women I can think of.
As far as if pants are required to do a particular job then I don't not really need to do it as works for you, just isn't possible for me. My husband is 19 years older than I am, we have only one son and there is no way we can afford to hire men. We have two choices 1) sell the farm 2) put on some pants now and then and keep our way of life. I've tried stacking hay in a dress and I just kept tripping on it and slowing every one down. (We hand stacked almost 3000 bails of hay last year) Climbing ladders when we were building our house was very dangerous as well in a dress. I also prefer to stuff a pair of pants in my muck boots when I slog through the manure in the barn yard over coming in the house with the hem of my dress all soiled. Then I can shower, put on a nice clean dress or skirt and go about my day feeling like a lady.
Anyway this is my perspective. I've found in life that there is very often more than one way to look at things.
God Bless
Well said, Jswife. I believe that it all depends on your circumstance. Like you, I cannot rely on my husband to keep up our little farm. My husband is a soldier and is away 6-9 months out of the year. My job as a helpmeet is to ease his burden and if that means wearing a pair of overalls or jeans so that he can return to a well kept, orderly place it is my duty to do so. If my husband were to return home to broken down fences, a creosite filled chimney, and a negative supply of firewood I would not have done my job. Being a lady sometimes requires getting down and dirty when there is work to be done, but doing it with plesantness and grace.
geneece- 09-01-2006
I'm sure if it were up to me to keep up the farm I'd be doing the same thing. Also, at home on the farm is vastly different than being in public. Each family is different and besides answering to God, we also answer to our husbands.
